All people from around the South Strand are invited to come and enjoy a free meal at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church (located across from the Wal-Mart in Garden City). Churches from the area are working together to serve a great lunch for the community.

  • If you are hungry, you are invited!
  • If you are struggling to make ends meet, you are invited!
  • If you are tired of eating alone at home or at work, you are invited!
  • If you would just like to meet some new people while enjoying a delicious meal, you are invited!

This is our gift to the community. We hope Community Lunch will become a gathering place for all people in the South Strand. Around the table, we will share a meal while also having the opportunity to get to know our neighbors.

Our vision is for no one in our community to go hungry or to feel isolated during lunch on Wednesdays.

We look forward to seeing YOU at Community Lunch this Wednesday!!!

When: Every Wednesday, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Where: In the Fellowship Hall at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, (across from Wal-Mart)

Who: All are invited.

Why: Jesus said, “ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” (Matthew 25:35-36)

The Dinner Club meets every other week at local restaurants for good food and good conversation.  We will meet at the decided upon location at 4pm.  Look in the Sunday Announcements or contact Sandy Huth for more information.

A “love offering” is suggested at the end of class which is used to support our Hygiene Ministry.

Do you love plants, gardening or floral arranging, then please join us!

We will be meeting on the 3rd Saturday of the month.  Gardening will meet at 10 am.  Floral arrangement at 11 am.     All are welcome!

Persons who love working with fibers like yarn are encouraged to join our small group as we share our creative stories with one another in Christian fellowship.  Our goal is to create lovingly made prayer shawls and other items to share with those who may need prayerful support in their life’s journey.  In addition, we hope to increase our skills working with fiber.

There are members who are novice knitters or crocheters and others who have mastered this art and are willing to teach others their skills. We share our patterns and make suggestions for yarn and needles to purchase.   Join us on alternate Monday afternoons  at 12:30 p.m. in the room outside of the office.    We meet in the Administration Building on the 1st and 3rd Mondays at 12:30 p.m.   (No meetings on Monday holidays).    For additional information, contact Karin Perkins, 860-463-2886, karinperkins.kp@gmail.com

For those of you interested in the Art of Painting, whether it is working with oil, acrylic, or water paints, come to the Narthex on October 12th from 9am until noon.  Chuck Lehr will be waiting to paint with you.

Please remember to bring your own supplies.

Typically Quilting groups create quilts out of an abundance of leftover fabric that can be used in so many ways—as warm blankets, as gathering space to eat on the floor, as room dividers in small homes around the world. The Quilting and Sewing Fellowship at Shepherd of the Sea takes that up a notch.   Many years ago, our Quilters started making quilts for our retired veterans .  These quilts are all works of art and hang on many walls around the country.  This tradition has expanded to include military family members, active duty and retired. But, Quilting does not stop there. The Quilters and Sewers also make quilts for our high school graduates, make banners for the church walls, placements and sew Christmas Stockings for children. These stockings are filled with goodies by our members to distribute to our financially challenged neighbors and schools.

The Quilters and Sewers welcome anyone who loves to sew and is experienced and also anyone who wants to learn how to sew and quilt.  Contact Sandy Lynn for additional information.

Quilting and Sewing will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the conference room.  It has tables for the sewing machines. Don’t forget to bring your sewing machine and sewing supplies.

The Travel Small Group meets each month, in the conference room on the 1st Wednesday of the month, at 3:00 pm.  Please join us and listen to the travel adventures of the other members of the group and share your own experiences.  Sharing these stories will help us plan what the future of this fun group will look like.

The Travel group would like to explore: Traveling as a Group, Trading Travelogues, arranging a trip
through the church, and more.  Join us, who knows you may meet the people who will be part of you next Great Adventure. For additional information, contact Dale Morris.

The book study will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 7 pm, starting October 26th.

The book will be studying is ” Learning to Pray Again” by Bishop Michael Rinehart and can be purchased on Amazon ($4.99 on Kindle, $14.99 in paperback).

If there are any questions about the study or using Zoom, please contact Alice Poziviak at alicepozi@hotmail.com.
